The victory over Rwanda in the qualifier was emphatic — a nine-wicket win that underlined Uganda’s dominance in the African qualifying rounds and announced their arrival as a force in Associate cricket.
Cricket in East Africa
East Africa has a rich cricketing history dating back to the colonial era, and Uganda sits at the heart of that tradition. The revival of Ugandan cricket has been built on a blend of experienced club cricketers and exciting young talent. Players like Riazat Ali Shah have attracted attention on the global stage, and the World Cup provided a platform to showcase the talent that exists within the country and across the continent. A strong showing from Uganda could inspire the next generation of East African cricketers to take up the game, helping grow the sport’s footprint in a region with enormous untapped potential.
Expectations at the World Cup
